Team MYWA Captures Crown at the Jersey Shore.

August 31, 2009, 4:03pm

Several of Michigan's Top Elementary and Middle School Wrestlers teamed up to capture this summer's NHSCA Jersey Shore Duals Tournament on August 8th at Long Branch High School in New Jersey.

MYWA Middle School and Elementary National Dual Team Director Ritch Roberts pulled together outstanding lineups and terrific parent support as Michigan National Team members took the 12 hour journey to a very nice beachside community for the event.

Coach Roberts commented on the fact that anytime you can travel into an area with the level of competition that you get in states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania and come away with the Championship hardware it is a real good indicator of how are program stacks up.

Team MYWA knocked off Jersey Triumph and Team SEPA in both Elementary and Middle School Division to earn the Championship Crown.

Coach Roberts pointed out that some of the wrestlers in the Jersey Duals lineup will be moving up to the high school level and several will return for the upcoming Fall and Pre-season events and several more opportunities will come as the NUWAY National Organization will be conducting a Michigan Qualifier for ages 12 & under - 10 & under - 8 & under Dual Teams for the NUWAY National Duals to be held in Ohio in early February. Weight's will need to be filled for the Team MYWA rosters, the Michigan Qualifier will be held on December 19th at Michigan State IM West Building next to the MSU Spartan Stadium.

Michigan Teams & Mishawaka Butt Heads at Northern Exposure Duals

June 23, 2009, 8:28am

Northern Exposure Duals - Middle School Champions
Flat River WC ~ Lowell, MI

Little Bear East ~ St Ignace, MI   6/21 – There was a little more then sharing homemade fudge and saltwater taffy at this weekend’s Northern Exposure Duals in St Ignace.

You might go as far to say, the Smoked Fish was left on the Mat.  Saturday’s Middle School Division was action packed as Flat River WC showed power claiming the Championship role. Programs such as Chippewa Hills and Escanaba showed off what looks to be a bright future full of young talent placing 2nd and 3rd at the Middle School level.

When a the fun was over Dan Sabin and the Michigan Elite Team ended with Silver, just a few points shy of collecting the High School Championship Hardware as they butted heads with Indiana Power Mishawaka Maroon.

“Good Programs took it to the Mat today”, says Rob Stehley Tournament Director.  The most exciting match of the weekend was Escanaba causing a stir by taking Mishawaka Maroon down to the wire with the Heavyweight Match deciding the Criteria (7 matches to 6) was the difference that secured the Maroons Championship.

Hats off to Birch Run, Pine River and MAD Wrestling for getting after it this weekend.  MAD Wrestling Coach - David Kennedy of Madison County, Ohio will be back,  he came looking to elevate the level of his team and got all he wanted as he commented on the large number of the Individual State Qualifiers that participated making this a competitive tournament in such a beautiful part of the country.
